What nationality is Ryan Bingham? Bio, Childhood and Education
Ryan Bingham was born on March 31, 1981, originally named George Ryan Bingham, in Hobbs, New Mexico, USA. His family moved frequently until they settled in Houston, Texas. Tragically, while his father was committed, his mother struggled with alcoholism and passed away.
For his education, Ryan attended Westfield High School in Houston. It was at the age of 16 that his mother gifted him a guitar, recognizing his innate musical inclination. Initially, he left the instrument untouched for a year. However, a year later, during a trip to Laredo, Texas, where he hitchhiked to work for his father, Ryan finally embraced the guitar.
Ryan’s passion for music grew significantly after he relocated to Stephenville, Texas. During this time, he also participated in Tarleton State University’s rodeo team. It was in a trailer near Stephenville that he wrote one of his most famous songs, “Southside of Heaven.”
A twist of fate led Ryan to Paris, France, when a friend invited him to the Disney Resort. He purchased a one-way ticket for $100, only to find upon arrival that his friend had left. Stranded in a foreign country with just his guitar, Ryan managed to return to Texas by performing in local parks for tips.
Back in Texas, Ryan met drummer Matthew “Papa” Smith, the brother of a friend, and together they co-founded the band “Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses.” Following a performance at an empty pub in Fort Worth, Ryan was approached by Marc Ford, who expressed interest in recording an album with him. This marked the beginning of Ryan Bingham’s music career.
Does Ryan Bingham have a wife? Details About His Marriage!
Ryan Bingham, now 40 years old, was previously married to his girlfriend-turned-wife, Anna Axster. In the past, Anna worked as a music director. The couple celebrated their wedding in 2009, marking nearly 11 years together.
Their wedding took place at a friend’s backyard in Malibu, as reported. All of the wedding flowers were sourced from the LA Flower Mart, with the help of their friends in making the arrangements. Anna donned a BCBG gown for the occasion, while Ryan opted for attire from The Stronghold. The memories were captured by wedding photographer Michelle Kang.
During a performance in Austin, Texas, on March 5, 2015, Ryan shared the joyous news that he and Anna were expecting their first child together. They welcomed their child into the world, although details about the child remain private.
Unfortunately, their relationship faced challenges, and after 12 years of marriage, Ryan filed for divorce on June 29, 2021. Reports in September 2021 revealed that their former residence in Topanga Canyon was sold for $2.45 million. Originally purchased for $1.36 million back in 2013, the property had been their family home where they raised three children together.

Ryan Bingham’s debut record with a major label was “Mescalito,” released on October 2, 2007, after signing with Lost Highway Records. The album was produced by Marc Ford.
Described by Texas Music Magazine as someone who “talks and sings with a whiskey-and-cigarette throat that screams hard-living,” Bingham’s raw vocal style exudes a sense of life lived to the fullest. The comparison is drawn to legends like Tom Waits, where someone as young as 29 can sound as weathered as a 50-year-old.
Rodeo competitions were a significant part of Bingham’s life, starting from his late teenage years when he began riding bulls.
“Roadhouse Sun” stands as the second studio collaboration between Ryan Bingham and The Dead Horses, released by Lost Highway Records on June 2, 2009. Once again, Marc Ford took the helm as producer.
In the movie “Crazy Heart,” Bingham contributed two songs to the soundtrack: “I Don’t Know” and “The Worn Out Kind,” the latter serving as the film’s theme song. The track was a collaborative effort between Bingham and T Bone Burnett, who produced the album.

In 2012, Bingham parted ways with both the Dead Horses band and Lost Highway Records. That same year, he independently released his fourth studio album, “Tomorrowland,” under his own label, Axster Bingham Records.
Teaming up with musician and producer Justin Stanley, Bingham worked on the songwriting and production for “Tomorrowland.” The album’s lead single, “Heart of Rhythm,” was unveiled to the public in July 2012.
In the independent film “A Country Called Home,” where Bingham had a starring role, his wife Anna Axster served as director and co-writer. The film hit theaters in 2014.
