In 1992, he joined forces with neighbors Stuart Cable and Richard Jones to form the band Tragic Love Company. The group drew inspiration from musicians like The Tragically Hip, Mother Love Bone, and Bad Company. In July 1996, they rebranded themselves as Stereophonics and, a month later, secured a record deal with V2.
Their debut album, “Word Gets Around,” released in 1997, reached number six on the UK charts.
Stereophonics has produced several hit songs, including “Handbags & Gladrags,” “Mr. Writer,” “Have a Nice Day,” and “Mama Told Me Not to Come.” The band received the Brit Award for Best New Group.
In a momentous performance, the trio played in front of over 240,000 spectators at the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park, London, on July 2, 2005, taking a break from their sold-out world tour.
Kelly’s debut solo album, “Only the Names Have Been Changed,” was released in 2007 as a limited edition and debuted at the top of the iTunes download chart.
