A Must-Read Guide For Beginners To WOW Cataclysm Classic – Three Aspects
If you’ve been playing WOW Cataclysm Classic for a while, then Pre-questing for a new expansion release should be nothing new for you.
It’s the process of stacking up a full Quest Log of quest from the current expansion in order to turn them in as soon as the new expansion drops and get a head start in the leveling process.
You can also invest WOW Cataclysm Classic gold in the game to complete quests more smoothly.
There are really three different ways to tackle the launch this time around and I think all hold merits in their own right depending on what your goal.
The three expansion release methods we’ll go over are one the Efficient Pre-quest Strat, two the Maximal Experience Strat and three the Zero Competition Strat.
Efficient Experience Strat
Let’s start out with the first strategy. This strategy primarily comes down to you having a Quest Log filled with 25 quests that are efficient to turn in. So, you can get a quick boost before heading to Hodir to Quest.
Ideally, this route should not take more than 3 to 4 minutes to complete and thus will require a few toys and Cataclysm gold to make work. Let me go over the route that I’ve created that I think will be the most efficient experience while still allowing you to get to Hodir pretty much at the same time as everyone else. While still giving you almost half a level for free.
We start the expansion in Dun Niffelem which is Sons of Hodir, Daily Quest Zone. Here we complete six quests along with an Everfrost Chip that you don’t accept until you’ve turned in a quest during a launch. Don’t forget to click it, because I have a feeling that I will.
After we turned in all seven quests, we use our Wormhole and left WOW Cataclysm gold to get to Storm Peaks, which will put us in the Old-world Zone where we can turn in three quests in Halls of lightning and two quests in Halls of stone.
In Cataclysm, the Quest Givers were moved right to the entrance of the Dungeon, so just fly in and out and you’re done. After that, we use our Argent Crusaders Tabard to teleport to the Argent Tournament. If you’ve been a good boy keeping up with your dailies, then you should have nine days available here.
If you don’t have the Tabard and haven’t unlocked all the Daily Quests then I would forgo the quest in Halls of lightning and Halls of Stone in order to use your Wormhole here instead. And then go to your faction specific questing ship in order to fill up the rest of Quest Log.
Once you’ve turned in all your quests here, you’ll still have quite a few quests in your Log but those will not be completed until you get to level 81.
At this point, you’ll use your Hearthstone, which you will have set to ever look in Winterspring. Then, simply fly into Mount Hyjal and pick up the first quest. Skip the initial little mini Zone and then start Questing.Once you get to level 81 with enough Quests in your log to get to level 82, you want to use your Dalaran Ring or Jaina’s Locket to get to Dalaran in order to turn in the two Daily Heroic Quests and fishing Daily Quest.
If you have a reply code Alpha in your back from killing Algalon, then this would be the time to turn that in as well. But since you can’t turn in the quest while the RP is active. I wouldn’t bank on you actually being able to complete this part.
Having a way to get to Dalaran will be very important later on as well, so you can take the portal to Caverns of Time from Dalaran in order to get started once you’re done with Deepholm. After that, take the portal to Ogrimmar and turn in the cooking and fishing Daily Quests. Click the head of Onyxia in your bag and turn in and then lastly before heading to Deepholm.
You’ll complete a personal summons and the followup for an almost instant 30k experience. I would recommend having a week ara that tracks how much experience you have completed in your Quest Log. So you don’t have to do any manual calculations.
Doing this strategy will get you close to revered with Guardians of Hyjal and get you to 82 in about 1 and 1/2 hours. Granted, you don’t struggle too much with competition in Hyjal which all in all should give you a nice Head Start in Deepholm in order to be able to quest with little to no competition.
Max Exp Strat
Then we have the maximal experience Strat. This launch strategy will keep you from going into any Cataclysm Zone for quite a while after the release. It’ll consist of you doing as many high-value quests in Rat Lich king as possible, mainly consisting of high level Dungeon quests and quests with quick followup and Turn in.
You will start your route in Hillsbrad Foothills by Alterac Valley Vendor in order to turn in all reputation quests assuming you didn’t complete any on your way to exalt.
After that, you do a big lap around North and in order to turn in all the quests you have planned out. This will take you a lot longer than the previous Strat, but will also take you a lot further.
On my death Knight, that I’ve done pretty much all Wrath content on. I can get around 1.3 million experience stacked up and that will get me to around 76% off a level, but on my Druid that has barely touched a single quest then I can get almost 2.3 million experience prepared before the launch. And that will put me in a pretty decent bit of level 81.
At that point, you’ll pretty much just want to forgo Hyjal altogether, while leveling the last bit until 82 either through random Dungeon finder or solo leveling in hals of lightning assuming it isn’t nerf before the release.
The major drawback of this strategy is that you will get no Guardians of Hyjal rep, but that will be the way to go if you want to hit level 85 as soon as possible. The actual quest route is quite complicated if you want to go to the most optimized Strat possible, and require a lot of questing to get to the stage to where you can receive certain quest lines and startable quests.

Zero Competition Strat
And lastly we have the zero Competition Strat. You start the expansion on your fly Mount just outside of Mount Hyjal to instantly fly over the wall and release. Go straight to the quest and skip the first questing area. This will get you straight to the area where pretty much all the bottlenecks in the zone are.
And thus doing it right away will put you ahead of the pack since all the other chumps will be spending up to 5 minutes getting to mount Hyjal through the Bread Quest. Congratulations. You are now ahead of the pack and can quest to see your hearts content without any competition. Once you get to level 81 with enough quest in your quest log to hit Level 82, then you can do the same route as the first step.
The drawback to the Strat is that you can only stack up to about 20 quests in your log because you need to be actually able to pick up quests while you’re in Hyjal. So the effort you can put into the leveling before the expansion is released will be diminished by about 110,000 experience. But based on how layering will be in release, it could absolutely be worth it.
Tips
First, I do these strats will make you leave Hyjal with slightly less reputation than you would if you just went straight in.
Personally, I don’t think that’s a very big drawback due to how many Heroics will be spamming at 85 with Tabard. The bigger one to consider is the Daily Quest complemetation. This primarily pertains to people where the release is far away from the daily reset. And if you plan to hit 85 in one session, so you can only complete 25 quests in a single daily reset.
In EU, that means that you’re somehow leveling to 85 before 8:00 a.m Central European Time. With enough time to do your Tol Barad dailies, then it would be a bummer you were locked out of doing the dailies because you had Daily Quests in your Pre-questing stack.
But let’s be real. That will realistically not be the case for 99.9% of people. But of course, keep in mind when the Daily Quest reset is in your Zone unless it’s more than 10 hours after the release.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Of course, if you’re a filthy casual waiting until the next morning to start your leveling, then don’t include a bunch of dailies in your questing route.
